Tennis: Djokovic Debacle!

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw The world number one men's single tennis player, Novak Djokovic, has created havoc for himself, his wife and some other tennis players by organising and taking part in the recent Charity Adria Tennis Tournament in Zadar, Croatia. He flouted the rules on social distancing and engaged in contacts with others, including ball boys, and lived it up in a nightclub, after winning his first match, as a result of all of this, he, his wife and other players have tested positive for the dreaded Coronavirus. The tournament was abandoned. This irresponsible behaviour has not only tarnished his brand - he reputedly earned last year some US$30 million from sponsorships - but also, it is suggested, has brought the sport of tennis into disrepute. Although we wish him and the others a speedy recovery from the Virus, it will be interesting to see whether the Lawn Tennis Authorities take any disciplinary action against him,  if only by issuing him with a reprimand, with or without a fine!   Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw may be contacted by e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots.
