Formula 1: Lewis Hamilton move to Ferrari

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw

In a surprise development, seven-times F1 World Champion, Lewis Hamilton, will move from Mercedes to Ferrari at the beginning of the 2025 season.

Hamilton, who is 39 years old, signed a new two-year deal with Mercedes in August of last year. His contract is believed to include a ‘break clause’ after one year, which apparently Hamilton has chosen to exercise.

Hamilton has not won a world title since 2020, so, perhaps, he feels that he can do better with a new team. Money may also be a motivating factor.

There has been no comment from either Mercedes or Ferrari on the move.

Hamilton believes that he was robbed of an eighth world title in the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, in which the race director failed to follow the rules correctly regarding the operation of a safety car late in that race. Since then, it appears that Hamilton has been driven by a desire to avenge that alleged injustice!

So, let us see whether the move to Ferrari rights that alleged wrong!
