Unusual Sports: World Egg Throwing Championships!

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw

On 30 June 2024, the World Egg Throwing Championships will be held just outside the Lincolnshire village of Swaton in Eastern England.

This annual event attracts competitors from all over the world.

They compete in teams of two consisting of throwers and catchers, placed at a distance of 10 metres apart, which increases after each successful catch.

If a competitor drops or breaks the egg, he/she is out of the competition.

The top 5 go through to the finals.

There is also a category for under-13s to take part in the competition.

The competition began in 2005 and the first world champions were a couple from New Zealand!

Over the years, the competition has raised money for several local, national and international good causes.
