Esports: Collaboration with the IOC on Sporting Integrity

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw

The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC) have signed an historic agreement to collaborate to prevent misconduct and enhance integrity in Esports, which continue to grow in popularity around the world.

Under this collaboration, the ESIC and the IOC, acting through the Olympic Movement Anti-Manipulation Unit, which is well-known for its expertise in its field, will exchange information and practices related to the integrity of Esports to prevent misconduct and fight corruption.

The CEO of ESIC, Stephen Hanna, commented:

This collaboration with the IOC …. marks a significant milestone for the global Esports industry and is a testament to the IOC’s commitment to the industry in the development of its Esports strategy.”

It appears that Esports can be easily distorted and manipulated and so this collaboration with the IOC is to be generally welcomed, especially as Esports may become an Olympic sport in the foreseeable future!
