July 2024 is a busy month for major sporting events.
On 1 July, the Wimbledon Tennis Championships begin; the Euro 2024 Football Tournament is in full swing with the final taking place on 14 July; the Open Golf Championship begins on 14 July; and the Paris Summer Olympic Games begin on 26 July.
One other annual sporting event worth mentioning and gaining in popularity is the EuroGames, officially, the European Gay and Lesbian Multi-Sports Championships, which will take place in Vienna from 17 – 20 July.
The event, which is billed as Europe’s largest LGBT+ sports event, celebrates diversity, equality and inclusion.
The EuroGames, which were first organised in The Hague, The Netherlands, in 1992, are open to participants irrespective of gender, age, race, religion, sexual orientation or disability.
In addition to the usual sports, they also feature non-Olympic sports, which will be of interest to LGBT+ participants, such as same-sex ballroom dancing.
As the old saying has it: it takes all sorts to make a world!
