Video Games: Latest Football Manager adds women’s teams

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw

After 20 years, the latest edition of Football Manager, which will be released worldwide on 4 November 2025, has added women's teams.

The first video game to feature women's football includes around 40,000 players from 14 leagues.

The previous edition of Football Manager was played by 20 million people!

Some of the new features are ambitious, and, as Miles Jacobson, the studio director of Sports Interactive, the team behind the Football Manager series of video games, has remarked:

"This isn't a continuation.

And added:

This is a new game - the start of the next 20 years."

Also, according to Tina Keech, the head of women's football research at Sports Interactive:

It’s been four years of sweat and tears."

And added:

"This is the biggest database in women's football in video games ….  [and] …. we've had to go out and do some real hard work to find this accurate data.”

The latest edition of Football Manager also reflects the continuing and growing interest in women’s football around the world!
