Enhanced Games: Another Irish Olympic Swimmer Joins!

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw

Max McCusker, who is 26 years old, is the second Irish Olympic swimmer to join the controversial Enhanced Games.

He follows in the footsteps of Shane Ryan, who has confirmed that he had signed up for the Enhanced Games after announcing his retirement from swimming in October 2025, and was condemned for doing so by Swim Ireland!

The first Enhanced Games are due to take place in Las Vegas, in the United States (US) in 2026, and will allow athletes to use performance-enhancing substances without being subject to drugs tests.

Each event in these Games will have a total prize money of U$500,000 (around €430,000)      and U$1 million (around €860,000) will be awarded to competitors who break world records.

Team GB Olympic swimmer, Ben Proud, four-times Greece Olympian, Kristian Gkolomeev, and US sprinter, Fred Kerley, are amongst other athletes, who are due to compete in the Games.
