FIFA has now officially announced that Gianni Infantino will stand for re-election as President in March of next year.
Infantino, who has served as President since 2016, has been under pressure to resign, following the abandonment of his proposal to sell stakes in FIFA competitions, including the World Cup, to private investors.
FIFA stated as follows:
"The FIFA President announced in April that he will stand for re-election in 2027. Of course, nothing has changed. Mr Infantino will be standing for re-election."
If, in fact, he is re-elected, his new term of office will run until 2031.
