E-Sports: E-NBA is ready to rumble

By Emre Bilginoglu, Attorney-at-Law, Istanbul, Turkey Following our previous post on the subject (GSLTR website, 10 February 2017), E-NBA is set to debut in 2018, as the NBA 2K E-Sports League has announced on 5 May 2017 that 17 NBA teams will participate in its first ever E-Sports’ season.   The participating teams are as follows: Boston Celtics; Cleveland Cavaliers; Dallas Mavericks; Detroit Pistons; Golden State Warriors; Indiana Pacers; Memphis Grizzlies; Miami Heat; Milwaukee Bucks; New York Knicks; Orlando Magic; Philadelphia 76ers; Portland Trail Blazers; Sacramento Kings; Toronto Raptors; Utah Jazz; and Washington Wizards. The list does not, however, include the second team with the highest amount of championships, Los Angeles Lakers (16), as they probably struggle enough on the field without Kobe Bryant. Chicago Bulls (6 – all of them with Michael Jordan), and San Antonio Spurs (5 – first one in the year 1999) are also off the list. However, basketball and E-Sports’ fans are already excited about the inaugural season. “This is the first step in what promises to be an extraordinary league, bringing together the world's best gamers and showcasing elite competition on an international stage” stated the managing director of the NBA 2K E-Sports League, Brendan Donohue. And added: “Our teams have expressed tremendous enthusiasm for esports, and we are looking forward to forming something truly unique for basketball and gaming fans around the globe.”   Exciting times lie ahead indeed!   Emre Bilginoglu may be contacted by e-mail at ‘This email address is being protected from spambots.
