Football: FIFA Bans ‘Super’ Agent!

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw The World Governing Body of Football, FIFA, on 10 May 2019, have banned Italian Dutch ‘Super’ Agent, Mino Raiola, who represents the likes of Paul Pogba, for three months for unspecified reasons. This ban will end one day after the English Premier League 2019 Summer Transfer Window closes on 9 August 2019. The FIFA ban follows an earlier ban of three months imposed by the Italian Football Association and extends the ban beyond Italy to football activity anywhere in the world. It would appear that the ban results from critical remarks made by Raiola about the Italian Football Association and, in particular, its handling of racism in Italian football. The ban puts in jeopardy a possible - probably lucrative - move by Pogba from Manchester United to Real Madrid or Juventus. Raiola also represents Ajax captain, Matthijs de Ligt, and his potential £64 million transfer to Barcelona may also be affected. Raiola has stated that he will legally challenge the ban: “I will seek justice against this injustice and for freedom of speech in every legal court possible to me as my main task is the interest of Italian football.” Fighting talk, indeed, but it will be interesting to see what actually happens next!
