Scottish Football: Legal Action against Relegation

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw An update to the Post of 2 June 2020: Hearts and Partick Thistle have commenced a legal action in the Scottish Court of Session claiming £10 million - £8 million and £2 million respectively - from the Scottish Premier Football League (SPFL) in the event that the Court decides not to overturn their relegation from the Premiership and Championship respectively. The SPFL has 7 days in which to respond to these claims. The Clubs' demotions were confirmed on 22 June 2020 when Scottish Football Clubs failed to agree league reconstruction, which would have reversed the demotions. All four Senior Scottish Football Divisions were suspended on 13 March 2020, due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. It will be interesting to see how this unprecedented legal action develops!   Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw may be contacted by e-mail at This email address is being protected from spambots.
