Rugby Union: Silver Lake to acquire stake in the All Blacks!

US Private Equity Firm, Silver Lake, is reported to be taking a 15% stake in the famous New Zealand All Blacks Rugby Union Football Team, which has won three Rugby World Cup tournaments.

This stake values the All Blacks at US$2 billion.

Silver Lake, which is mainly active in the global technology sector, already owns sporting investments in City Football Group, which owns Manchester City FC, and sports teams in the US, Australia, Japan, Spain and Uruguay.

The All Blacks, one of the world’s leading and iconic sporting brands, has suffered financially as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, using up in 2020 almost half of its cash reserves of some US$60 million.

Sadly, a sign of the current sporting times!
