Unusual Sporting Events!

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw

Sport takes many forms and there are a number of so-called ‘insane’ sports practised in various parts of the world.

These include Bed Racing, which is practised by the US Military, beginning in 1965, and has since become popular elsewhere in the world.

There are six players, who push the bed, with another player on the bed. The aim is to beat other players down to the finishing line. Furthermore, the bed must be able to float, as crossing a river is the final part of the event!

To mention but a few of them, other such sports include:

  • Conker Smashing;
  • Worm Charming;
  • Real Ale Wobble;
  • Extreme Ironing;
  • Hornussen (Switzerland); and
  • Camel Wrestling.

For more information on these and other unusual sporting events from around the world, log onto the following website at: https://list25.com/25-most-insane-sporting-events-from-around-the-world/. Well worth taking a look.

As they say: “It takes all sorts to make a (sporting) world!”
