Football: Paul Pogba Doping Ban

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw

Juventus mid-fielder and France international, Paul Pogba, who is 30 years old, is facing a four-year ban for an alleged anti-doping rule violation.

He tested positive for elevated levels in his system of testosterone - a hormone that enhances the endurance of athletes - and stated that he was “sad, shocked and heartbroken” and that he would appeal.

He also stated that he believed the result was “incorrect” and that he would “never knowingly or deliberately” dope.

If the ban is confirmed, he would not be able to play football until 2027, when he would be 34 years old. In other words, that might be at the end of his career as a professional footballer.

So, the stakes are rather high!
