Football: Ticket Touting Clampdown at Bright & Hove Albion FC

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw

The English Premier League Football Club, Brighton & Hove Albion, has exposed an operation that tried to resell tickets worth £125,000 (around €142,000) in a game played at their Amex Stadium on 20 September 2025.

285 on the day tickets and 12 season tickets were identified as having been resold.

One fan travelled from South Korea for this game, and was refused entry when it was found that his ticket had been bought for £900 (around €1,000) from an unauthorised website.

The Club stated that it was using artificial intelligence (AI) and specialist software to flag suspect tickets, with the holders of them being sent to the ticket office to be checked.

More than 350 tickets were found to have been fraudulently sold at its last home match, with five season tickets cancelled for that match.

Jenny Gower, the head of supporter services at the Club, remarked:

"We have recruited specialist personnel who are now identifying those suspect transactions and block tickets, so the ticket holders are sent to the ticket office on matchdays.”

And added:

"The message is getting through to the touts and illegal resellers; Brighton isn't the place to try to do this type of business.”

However, the Club operates a ticket exchange service, whereby season ticket holders, who are unable to attend matches, are able to sell them to other fans through the Club.
