By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw

Gianni Infantino, the President of FIFA, has announced that he has abandoned his controversial plan to sell off stakes in FIFA competitions, including the Men’s and Women’s World Cups, to private investors following widespread opposition.

Infantino stated that it had become clear that the plan had "created divisions" that are "no longer in the interest" of its original objective.
