Football: Liverpool FC Sale

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw

It has been reported that the owners of Liverpool FC have agreed to sell around one third of the club to a consortium, which includes Jeff Bezos, the billionaire founder of Amazon.

This marks his first venture into the sporting world, but he will not become a member of the board of the club.

The deal values the club at between £5 billion (around €5.8 billion) and £6 billion (around €7      billion).

It appears that the deal includes an option to increase the shareholding of the consortium in the club in the future.

It also appears that the deal will not have any impact on the current summer transfer window.
