Football: Manchester City FC Appeal

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw

It has been reported that, as expected, Manchester City FC have confirmed that they have filed an appeal, on 2 October 2026, against an independent commission ruling that the club was guilty of all charges relating to breaches of the English Premier League (EFL) financial regulations.

The Club contend that the ruling of the commission contained "clear material errors, of law, principle and fact and is unsafe".

And added that the Club has also filed "a comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence [that] exists in support of all of its positions".

On 2 October 2026, the English Football Association (FA) commented that the ruling against the Club raised "significant implications for the integrity of the game".

And the FA added that:

"We are carefully considering the decision and its implications and will take action where appropriate."
