The Olympic Channel: FIFA signs up to provide Soccer content

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw FIFA, the World Governing Body of Association Football (Soccer), has signed an agreement, on 13 December, 2016, with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to provide content to the Olympic Channel (www.olympicchannel.com). The Channel was launched, on 21 August, 2016, by the IOC following the conclusion of the 2016 Rio Summer Olympic Games. Under their agreement, FIFA will provide the Olympic Channel with news access and content licences to promote soccer within the Olympic Movement. FIFA has joined 36 International Sports Federations and IOC-recognised Associations, who have already signed up and are contributing to the Olympic Channel. Other major sports bodies, who have yet to sign up to the Olympic Channel, include the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations); the FIVB (International Volleyball Federation); and the IHF (International Handball Federation). The Channel provides original programming; live sporting events; highlights; news coverage; and magazine shows and is on air 24/7/365.
