Tokyo 2020: Golf venue changes stance on women members!

By Prof Dr Ian Blackshaw Further to my post of  14 March 2017 regarding Muirfield Golf Club in Scotland, it has been announced that Kasumigaseki Country Club, which is located in the Saitama Prefecture and will host the golf competitions when golf returns to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games, following its debut in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, will also now admit women members. This follows initiatives by the International Olympic Committee (IOC), which has welcomed this change in policy. Previously, women were only allowed to play on the course on Sundays and also prevented from becoming full members. As previously mentioned, the IOC, under the provisions of the Olympic Charter, prohibits any form of discrimination in sport, including on the grounds of gender. This development paves the way for the return of golf to the Olympic Programme in the Tokyo Summer Games being a successful event!
